Dear Esteemed Participants,
It is my great honour and pleasure to welcome you to the Certified Travel Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria (CTMPN) online certification course, the first Nigerian-owned Travel Medicine Certification Programme.
Over the coming weeks, you will engage in a fully online hybrid curriculum comprising video-based modules, readable PDFs, presentation decks, and post-module MCQ assessments. Through this programme, you will gain:
A clear understanding of pre-travel risk assessment and intervention planning.
Proficiency in vaccine recommendations, travel chemoprophylaxis, and medical concierge services.
Skills to prevent and manage common in-transit health issues.
Insight into the evaluation and management of returning travellers with fever, vector-borne diseases, and post-travel syndromes.
The ability to counsel special populations, including pregnant travellers and immunocompromised individuals.
Confidence in applying international travel health guidelines within a Nigerian context.
The certification course consists of fourteen (14) comprehensive modules. At the end of every module, participants are required to complete a post-module multiple-choice question (MCQ) assessment to evaluate comprehension and mastery of the learning objectives.
In addition, participants must submit reflective write ups outlining key learnings, insights, and practical takeaways from each module. These reflections are a compulsory component of the course and must demonstrate original thought and personal engagement with the material. Participants are hereby advised that AI-generated or AI-assisted reflections will be detected and not be accepted under any circumstances.
The final module of the programme is a compulsory capstone project, which allows participants to synthesize knowledge acquired across all modules and demonstrate applied competence in travel medicine practice.The capstone project is your opportunity to demonstrate what you learnt from this course in a format that reflects real-world practice.
You will choose one of the following options:
A structured case study, following a provided template, illustrating a travel health consultation—pre-travel, intra-travel, or post-travel—clearly highlighting your clinical reasoning and decision-making;
OR
A video or audio-recorded clinical simulation, in which you perform a simulated consultation demonstrating comprehensive travel risk assessment, evidence-based recommendations, and professional communication.
The capstone serves as your final demonstration of competency prior to being awarded the Certified Travel Medicine Practitioner of Nigeria (CTMPN) designation.
Participants are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and academic integrity throughout the programme. This includes respectful engagement, adherence to deadlines, honest assessment of performance, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
