Dear Esteemed Participants,
On behalf of the Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine (NSTM)—its Board of Trustees and the Executive Council, it is my great honour and pleasure to welcome you to the first-ever Nigerian-owned Travel Medicine Certification Course. This moment marks a historic milestone as You, the members of this pioneering first cohort, are the trailblazers of a new era in Nigerian healthcare:one in which we take ownership of our Travel Medicine training, standards, and global relevance.
As globalization continues to transform the way we live, work, and move, the health risks associated with International Travel are becoming increasingly complex. Whether it’s a Business Traveller heading to the United Kingdom, a Pilgrim bound for the Vatican or Mecca, or a Student studying abroad, the need for competent, evidence-based travel health advice tailored to Nigeria is now non-negotiable.
Over the next few weeks, through a structured fully online hybrid curriculum of Video-based modules, Readable PDFs, Presentation Decks and post module mcq assessments, you will gain:
1. A clear understanding of Pre-Travel risk Assessment and Intervention Planning.
2. Proficiency in Vaccine recommendations, Travel chemoprophylaxis, Medical concierge services
3. Skills to Prevent and treat common in-transit health issues.
4. Insight into managing returning travellers with fever, vector-borne diseases, or post-travel syndromes.
5. The ability to counsel special populations (e.g., pregnant travellers, immunocompromised individuals).
6. Confidence in applying international travel health guidelines in a Nigerian context.
Each of the 14 modules must be completed with the final module dedicated to a capstone project that showcases your full learning journey.
