Welcome Address for the First Nigerian Owned Travel Medicine Certification Course

Dear Esteemed Participants,

It is my great honour and pleasure to welcome you to the Certified Travel Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria (CTMPN) online certification course, the first Nigerian-owned Travel Medicine Certification Programme.

Overview

Over the coming weeks, you will engage in a fully online curriculum comprising video-based modules, readable PDFs, presentation decks, and post-module MCQ assessments. Through this programme, you will gain:

  1. A clear understanding of pre-travel risk assessment and intervention planning.
  2. Proficiency in vaccine recommendations, travel chemoprophylaxis, and medical concierge services.
  3. Skills to prevent and manage common in-transit health issues.
  4. Insight into the evaluation and management of returning travellers with fever, vector-borne diseases, and post-travel syndromes.
  5. The ability to counsel special populations, including pregnant travellers and immunocompromised individuals.
  6. Confidence in applying international travel health guidelines within a Nigerian context.

Format

The certification course consists of Thirteen (13) comprehensive modules. At the end of every module, participants are required to complete a post-module multiple-choice question (MCQ) assessment to evaluate comprehension and mastery of the learning objectives and  submit reflective write ups between 150 to 200 words outlining key learnings, insights, and practical takeaways from each module. These reflections, should be uploaded in the assignment section and must demonstrate original thought and personal engagement with the material. The deadline for the completion of each module is as indicated on a weekly basis.
Please also be advised that different assessors are assigned to different participants; therefore, notifications regarding weekly assignments may vary. However, please be assured that all notifications will be issued within the week indicated on the timetable.

To enhance professional visibility and build your foundational skills in healthcare social media marketing, participants are encouraged to engage in cohort-based social media activities.  Please create and maintain a professional presence on LinkedIn™ and at least one additional platform (e.g., X, Threads, Instagram, or TikTok), and ensure your profiles are linked on the learning platform. You are also encouraged to share your reflections on the social media handles with the relevant hashtags provided in the assignment section. Links to posts should be included in the feedback section.

The Capstone Project: Your Professional Statement

The final step of the programme is a compulsory capstone project, which allows participants to synthesize knowledge acquired across all modules and demonstrate applied competence in travel medicine practice that reflects real-world practice.  You will choose one of the following options following a provided template

  • A structured case study,  illustrating a travel health consultation, pre-travel, intra-travel, or post-travel,clearly highlighting your clinical reasoning and decision-making;

OR

  • A video or audio-recorded clinical simulation, in which you perform a simulated consultation demonstrating comprehensive travel risk assessment, evidence-based recommendations, and professional communication.

Participants are expected to note and adhere strictly to the following:

  • This course runs from March 2nd 2026 to June 6th 2026
  • Each post-module MCQ assessment has a pass mark of 80% (up to three attempts per module).

·       You must complete each module on a weekly basis in accordance with the timetable. Access to subsequent modules will be granted only after completion of the required assessment and submission of the  Business Development Visibility Reflections.

  • The capstone project has a pass mark of 70% and allows a maximum of two (2) attempts.
  • Failure to complete the course within the stipulated time will attract an additional fee of 50% and participants will be transferred to the next available diet
  • Refunds are not allowed

·       Participants are hereby advised that AI generated  or assisted submissions both in the reflections and Capstone projects  will be detected and not be accepted under any circumstances.

The Certificate of Completion will be awarded only upon fulfilment of all the following criteria:

  1. Completion of all modules and their respective post-module MCQ assessments
  2. Uploading of all required reflective submissions.
  3. Successful completion of the capstone project.

Participants are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and academic integrity throughout the programme. Your participation is not merely about obtaining a certificate  but about  joining a dynamic national network of professionals  with interests in advocacy for safe, ethical, and forward-thinking travel health practice in Nigeria and beyond.  Thank you for embarking on this important journey with us.
